WHO WE ARE
Help Promise is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families facing socio-economic hardships by attempting to identify and tackle root causes that frustrate and individual's efforts to move out of a cycle of food and/or housing insecurity, education inequality and other inequities resulting from poverty. While Help Promise is not a direct service provider, it works with community partners to identify barriers to change while simultaneously shining a light on the many wonderful organizations that work tirelessly to offer help and assistance to those in need.

OUR STORY
_______________________
Help Promise is the brainchild of an attorney in Virginia whose first job was working as a public interest lawyer in Philadelphia, and who spent most of her career addressing issues of homelessness, neglect, disability rights, truancy, and abuse. What became clear is that many cases which present as violations of law, upon closer examination, contain issues related to poverty and the inability to access required services.

The seed for the creation of Help Promise was therefore sown in the halls of Family Court as a network of community resources was cultivated to help families in need.

MISSION STATEMENT

Use the strength of each other to bring about change in the lives of one another.

WHAT WE DO
Help Promise Brings Communities and Partners Together to Facilitate Change
Help Promise seeks to create a partnership between three major groups: Nonprofit organizations working in their respective communities; individuals facing hardships stemming from poverty and other inequities; and community partners who are able to offer help and assistance as needed.

Our goal with each group is to accomplish the following:

1. Shine a Light on Systemic Barriers to Change
-
Research and report on laws, regulations, court decisions and assistant programs that have underperformed in the war against poverty
-
Identify reasons for this ineffectiveness
-
Educate and advocate for change

2. Build a Partnership with Community Nonprofit Organizations
-
Bring awareness of the work and resources available to families in need
-
Build a roadmap to help individuals in need discover where to go for help in their area

3. Engage in Community Education, Outreach and Advocacy
-
Educate the community on the laws impacting their right to services and protection
-
Listen and advocate for change

COMMUNITY PARTNERS
___________________________________________
Community Partners are people, groups or businesses in the community who pledge to advocate for change, not primarily with money, but through:
-
Time (volunteering, engaging in information gathering and outreach)
-
Service (offering skills and expertise)
-
Commodities (donating food, clothing, shelter, tools, etc.)
-
Information (sharing opportunities and promoting available resources)
We refer to these pledges of help as COMPASSION DONATIONS - nonmonetary help that creates a huge impact.
